We love when clients aren’t afraid of colour! This dining room is now set up for family and friends to gather and share a meal; complete with a TON of new cabinetry, a comfy storage banquette, and a new set of sliding doors out to the deck.
The adjacent powder room was also refreshed to match. We maximized the storage and turned the toilet to ensure that the bottom vanity drawers could fully extend. Powder rooms are a great opportunity to make a statement so we installed bold tree wallpaper and olive green cabinetry. Finally, we installed a large front-lit mirror in place of vanity lighting.
The pandemic forced this couple to claim their dining table as their office more often than they would have liked. Now back to work in the office they wanted to reclaim this space as their dining and gathering space. Their existing sliding glass doors needed replacing so we took this opportunity to explore different ways to utilize the back wall of their home and connecting the kitchen to the dining room, by exchanging the back door closet for full height pantry storage.
Ultimately, we ended up shrinking the new set of doors by a few inches and moving them over in order to install a full wall of cabinetry in the dining room. The resulting cabinetry gives them both display space and concealed storage to suit all of their needs. This space is now a great place to host friends and family and *occasionally* sit down for an afternoon of working from home.
The best place to go bold? A powder room! This is a space where people don’t generally spend a lot of time so the space can handle a more “over the top” approach without overwhelming the user. We knew we wanted to do something dramatic from the beginning so we played with fun wallpaper to narrow down the design direction.
The homeowners love Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, cats, dogs, you name it, so we looked at some pretty cool Harry Potter Marauder’s Map wallpaper (IYKYK), and many really cute cat and dog wallpapers before settling on some bold birch trees. We turned the toilet to allow the new vanity drawers to fully withdraw, and mirrored the arched dining room cabinets for continuity between the two rooms.
