INTERIOR DESIGN + PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Design & Build by Bungalow Interior Design

What began as a design consultation quickly evolved into full-service construction management, transforming this historic condo into a home that balances traditional furnishings with mid-century modern character. Working within the existing footprint, the design focused on making simple but impactful updates that respected the architecture of the building while creating a space that feels cohesive, warm, and distinctly personal.

A defining feature of the project is the custom fireplace wall, where integrated millwork, plaster detailing, and thoughtfully designed storage create a strong focal point for the living space. Throughout the home, existing architectural elements, the recently renovated kitchen, and treasured furniture pieces from Toronto were carefully preserved and reimagined, proving that great design isn’t always about starting from scratch. Instead, it is about finding harmony between what stays and what changes.

The material palette was inspired by the client’s art collection, layering warm wood tones, rich textures, and timeless finishes to bridge traditional and mid-century influences. Every selection was made to complement the home’s existing character while introducing a more refined and intentional aesthetic.

Completed over 14 weeks of design and eight weeks of construction, the project demonstrates the value of collaboration, patience, and thoughtful problem solving. Despite the complexities of renovating within an older condominium, including fragile electrical systems, varied wall construction, and building restrictions, the result is a home that feels lighter, more functional, and beautifully reflective of its owner. It also serves as a reminder that the most successful projects are built on trust, clear communication, and a design process that provides the time and structure needed to make confident decisions.
